BALTIMORE, Feb. 23, 2009 – Constellation Energy's Projects & Services Group announced today that it has been awarded an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Huntsville, Ala. The ESPC enables Constellation Energy's Projects & Services Group to continue to conduct energy efficiency, renewable energy and water conservation projects at U.S. military facilities and other government installations. This is the second ESPC awarded to the company in recent months. Constellation Energy's Projects & Services Group has also been named as an approved ESPC provider for federal sites by the U.S. Department of Energy.
"We have been developing energy services projects at U.S. military facilities and other federal sites since the inception of the first energy savings performance contracting programs, and we are pleased to continue the important work of making U.S. installations more efficient and sustainable," said Greg Jarosinski, president of Constellation Energy's Projects & Services Group.
Under an ESPC, Constellation Energy's Projects & Services Group designs, constructs and obtains the necessary financing for an energy savings project, and the federal agency makes payments over time from the energy cost reductions. The structure enables federal customers to undertake larger, more comprehensive energy conservation projects, while ensuring that results are guaranteed and monitored over a long-term.
ESPCs also enable military and federal facilities to utilize renewable energy technologies, an area of particular focus for the business, which has a renewable project portfolio that includes solar, wind, geothermal and biomass. The company has completed installation of approximately 5 megawatts of on-site solar power systems for customers throughout the U.S., and has also deployed more than 30 geothermal projects that deliver nearly 12,000 tons of cooling capacity.
