Constellation Energy, Chicago Bears Highlight "Save Da Planet" Week With an Environmental Lesson from Elementary School Students
Chicago Public Schools Students Demonstrate Environmental Prowess
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
The Chicago Bears and Constellation Energy, the energy provider to Halas
Hall and a leading competitive energy supplier in Illinois, met with Hamilton
Elementary School students Tuesday to highlight the team's inaugural
"Save Da Planet" activities that culminate with Sunday's game. Students
gave Bears' linebacker Nick
Roach a tour of their garden and composting efforts, and shared
high-fives over the school's environmental leadership.
The fourth, fifth and sixth grade students — and volunteer members of
the "green team" at Hamilton Elementary — stole the show, as this video
shows, by demonstrating their environmental expertise and know-how. The
experienced recyclers, composters and gardeners presented ways they lead
their school in being environmentally conscious. The students also
prepared tips and advice for the Bears on ways the team can save energy,
use less water and compost the many fruits and vegetables NFL players
eat to stay strong and healthy.
"These students are the young leaders of tomorrow who are setting an
example for all of us on ways to protect our planet and live more
sustainably," said John Oroni, vice president, Great Lakes - Ohio Valley
Region for Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG). "Constellation Energy is
thrilled to support the Bears' commitment to recycling, energy
efficiency and clean energy and we hope fans and Illinois residents will
take advantage of the clean energy we offer through our electricity
choice and savings." More information is available at home.constellation.com.
"It's always encouraging to see young people engaged in making our
communities, our state and the planet a better place to live," said Jen
Walling, executive director of the Illinois Environmental Council, a
supporter of "Save Da Planet" week who joined in the Hamilton Elementary
School activities. "We applaud the Chicago Bears and Constellation
Energy for their efforts to promote energy-saving techniques to the
residents of Illinois."
The "Save Da Planet" week will conclude Sunday at the Bears game against
the San Diego Chargers with Constellation Energy retiring renewable
energy certificates (RECs) to cover the expected energy usage at Soldier
Field that day. The RECs will help those attending the game avoid
approximately 42 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions — that's
roughly equivalent to 1,700 propane grills commonly used at tailgates.
